Koomen’s ‘modular’ abstract paintings are reminiscent of the Color Field and minimalist paintings of the 50s and 60s, without the strict rules characteristic for that period - au contraire, these paintings are about freedom and it's opposite: exclusion.
Balls (a favorite image), lines and sensual waves are applied on the canvas in a supple and semi-casual way, make them attractive for the eyes - and the mind.
Based on the way enthusiastic fans but also galleries ‘like’ and follow her frequent Instagram posts, we can only conclude that the abstract, brightly colored paintings of Loes Koomen are on a roll!
